1950 -- Roy Thompson & Family Members Fishing Lake Berry Mountain

I received an e-mail today from Marc Bourgea. Marc is an avid fly fisherman. He had purchased a Thomas rod that was once owned by RoyThompson -- The following storyboards containthe images of a fishing trip taken to Lake BerryMountain on the Gaspe Peninsula.

The fishing camps at Lake Berry Mountain were closed in the mid 1990's. The Provincial Government burned the camps down in 1995. The land was returned to the Mic Mac Indians. Back in the 1950's the eight mile road into Lake Berry Mountain was well maintained. There were several bridges that fell into disrepair -- then never repaired. Today one is required to travel 25 miles up Provincial Route 99 from New Richmond, Quebec and then take a right onto a network of logging roads 25 miles into the lake. The lake is maintained by the Mic Mac Indians. There is a walking path around the lake with wooden walkways and benches made from trees. Where the camps were located is a campsite with fire pit. Back towards the woods is an outhouse.
